Resident Evil 5 for SHIELD TV is an exciting action game, developed by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios as a port of the original Resident Evil 5.

Transition from Horror to Action

Resident Evil 5 aims to cater to both new and long-time fans of the franchise by maintaining the cinematic storytelling, while introducing new gameplay mechanics. Originally known for defining the horror survival genre in the 90s, the Resident Evil series has experimented with various other genres such as rail shooters and first-person shooters. However, the drastic shift in gameplay started with Resident Evil 4, where the camera was positioned behind the player and zoomed to an over-the-shoulder view when players aimed their guns or prepared for close combat. This more action-oriented style was continued in Resident Evil 5, which disappointed some fans who preferred the horror atmosphere.

Continuing the Zombie Franchise

Resident Evil 5 kicks off following the Raccoon City disaster. The infamous Umbrella Corporation has been dismantled and their deadly experiments contained. However, a new threat emerges. Chris Redfield, a S.T.A.R.S. veteran and founder of the Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), is sent to Africa to investigate a biological agent terrorizing the local populace of the Kijuju Autonomous Zone. Assisted by African BSAA agent Sheva Alomar, players must cooperate with their A.I. ally to overcome hordes of zombies and powerful bio-weapons.

Upgraded Armaments and Quick-Select Inventory System

Resident Evil 5 provides players with new weapons such as the VZ61 MG, Longbow, Stun Rod, Proximity Bomb, Grenade Launcher, and Gatling Gun. These weapons can be upgraded or swapped for superior ones. The game also introduces a "Quick-Select" Inventory System where players can trade ammunition, weapons, and healing items with their A.I. ally in real time. Players can choose between third-person action game controls or Resident Evil 4’s controls.

Nvidia Shield Android TV Compatibility

Using Capcom’s MT Framework game engine, which has been used in other popular titles like Dead Rising and Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5 offers stunning lighting effects for intense scenes. This is further enhanced by NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV’s ability to play back the game in 720p HD resolution.

Reshaping Horror into Action

Resident Evil 5 for SHIELD TV is a departure from the classic horror formula, leaning more towards action-packed gameplay akin to popular titles like Call of Duty and Gears of War. It provides an accessible entry point for newcomers wanting to experience the Resident Evil series in a more action-oriented, Hollywood style.
